Yep, it’s simple, it’s easy and it is quick to do. That’s right! You want your body to age as gracefully as your face would after using all those expensive treatments, skincare products and effort you put in look your best on day-to-day basis.

Imagine 10 years from now, your face is aging gracefully and you look younger because of all the investment and joy you’ve put in to make your face look great, but you have grandma hands and legs. I mean that’s just not good, is it now? The thought itself is kind of worrying.

But… worry not, I’ve got a secret that I’m going to let you on which will make your skin feel lovely each day. I am talking body lotions and how having a morning and evening routine with them, can delay the signs of aging in the long run.

I don’t know about you but I have been really lazy when it comes to applying body lotion after a shower in the morning or night. Many reasons contribute to it like it takes a lot of time, body feels oily and it feels like something is sitting on my skin. I love the shine which I get after applying a body lotion but I just want to minus all the heaviness and instead have a really nice hydrating and feel good body lotion.

Ever since I’ve entered the 30s I’m taking skin care and health more seriously than before. In an attempt to feel good and practice some self care and self love, I went on a search for good body lotions which had the following properties:

1. Hydrating non-harmful formula

2. Filled with vitamins, antioxidants, ceramides and all that good stuff

3. Non-sticky and non-oily

4. Fully absorption

5. Feels luxurious/ the feel-good factor

6. Affordable

7. Caters to my main five requirements – hydration, works on de-pigmentation, stretch marks, has anti-aging properties and provides sun protection.

8. Comes from a trusted company.

Surprisingly, this was a tall ask. But, I found some hidden gems which when combined together started showing results within the first week itself. the results included:

  1. Hydration
  2. Depigmentation
  3. Long term nourishment which last throughout the day

I don’t know about you but I have always found doing skin care on my face to be much quicker and more therapeutic, than to find the time to apply skin care on my body. It takes so much times and less than often made me feel like there’s something sitting on my skin. Therefore, didn’t like it very much. Even then, I found myself a new find – Vaseline Healthy Bright Body Lotion 400 ml, Daily Brightening Moisturizer with Sunscreen.

Vaseline Healthy Bright Body Lotion 400 ml, Daily Brightening Moisturizer with Sunscreen.

It was a decent body lotion, but it didn’t do any noticeable skin brightening or sun protection for me. Therefore, wanted a good change to a new product which ticked all the boxes of the list I mentioned above.

On delving deep into the world of skincare and the science behind it, basically after geeking out on all that good stuff, I basically started shortlisting products which had loads of good ceremide’s (to rebuild compromised level of ceramides in the skin / the skin barrier which leads to acne, rosacea etc.) + some treatment/active (hyaluronic acid/niacinamide/retinol) + sun protection (SPF 50+ for maximum protection). Practically, its impossible to have one product which has all of this, hence after my search I shortlisted to these three products and created a morning and evening routine in which I used these products interchangeably depending on what my skin needs for the day –

Morning routine:

NIVEA Sun Lotion, SPF 50, with UVA & UVB Protection, Water Resistant Sunscreen

NIVEA Sun Lotion, SPF 50, with UVA & UVB Protection, Water Resistant Sunscreen – I use this generously on my hands, legs, elbows, feet! (feet is very important, you don’t want those sandal tan lines) and on any open areas. This nourishes with vitamin E and also provides good sun protection especially for the days when I’m out and about. It is also water resistant which is great for people like us, who live in India since we tend to perspire almost in all seasons due to the weather change. However this wouldn’t be my go to for sunscreen when I am enjoying some outdoor sports including swimming, in that case my go to would be Suncros Tint Lotion (SPF-50+) (PA+++) (48 ml) because its more water resistant.

This is the only body lotion I use in the morning and it’s a quick process before I step out of my house. It does the trick for me, provides me nourishment and sun protection regardless of the weather or sweat.

Cost: Rs.495 for 125ml
Works for all skin type.
Mild Fragrance

Evening routine:

I have two body lotions here for my evening routine which I interchangeably use on alternate days or as per what my skin requires at that point. I haven’t heard many people or next to few actually we have spoken about these products and shared the experiences. But for me these are my two hidden gems. Both are packed with goodness that your skin needs to battle dehydration, broken skin barrier and work on anti-aging. They haven’t caused any damage to my skin and they make my skin feel soft, which I love. I even tried to scratch myself to check if my skin is dry or dehydrated and that’s not the case.

Active Topicals Retinol (0.2%) Body Lotion for Firm & Youthful Skin

Active Topicals Retinol (0.2%) Body Lotion for Firm & Youthful Skin – Perhaps one of the best finds I’ve had in a while. It has all the ingredients to heal the skin, hydrate it and help in building of collagen due to presence of 0.2% Retinol. It’s gentle on the skin and my skin drinks it up like water post shower. It’s so good to sleep on with. After using it for a couple of days, I saw my pigmentation getting lighter. An after effect I wasn’t expecting so soon. The ladies reading my article would know, how our inner thighs get pigmented due to hormones or being over weight. My dermat had suggested me to use Ban A Tan cream for the pigmentation, but that also didn’t work as good as this one and so quickly to say the least.

In short, I am happy to have found this lotion. It delivers on the front of “visibly improves complexion” as claimed by the brand. I am going to use this regularly and get rid of the pigmentation.

This also has a host of active ingredients like – Retinol, Glycolic Acid, Plant derived AHA, Hyaluronic acid, Trehelose.

Cost: Rs.1199 for 200ml (It is tad expensive, but its worth it for the results it delivers. Unmatched to any cream/lotion I’ve used for depigmentation + it has Retinol, and I am happy to have this incorporated in my skincare.)
Works for all skin type.

Chemist at Play Body Lotion with Ceramides for Dry-Normal Skin type | 5% Niacinamide + 2% Zemea

Chemist at Play Body Lotion with Ceramides for Dry-Normal Skin type | 5% Niacinamide + 2% Zemea – This body lotion, has Niacinamide and it has multimolecular Hyaluronic Acid meaning hydration, depigmentation and anti-aging. Tick, tick, tick!

I have never come across or used a body lotion which has this concentration of Niacinamide as one of the first and the core ingredients, which makes this a really effective and potent body lotion. It beautifully nourishes my skin and feels very rich. My body drinks it up and feels hydrated when I wake up in the morning. I would say this is a no fuss product and delivers what it claims. Not to mention, the quantity is decent. It will easily last for couple of months or more.

Cost: Rs.749 for 473ml
Works for normal to dry skin type.
No Fragrance.

This is what my quick and fabulous morning and evening body care looks like. Simple and straight forward. Easy to do and stay committed to especially when results start following.

I have also experienced some really good results with a combination of these body care products –
